Hogan Popularity Sinks while Paid Sick Leave Soars

Oct 06, 2017

Annapolis, Md. – Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews issued a statement on a new poll that found that 74 percent of registered voters in Maryland support the Healthy Working Families Act (HB1). The bill, which was vetoed by Governor Larry Hogan, would require companies with at least 15 employees to provide five days of paid sick leave each year to full-time employees.  Governor Hogan’s veto prevented 700,000 Maryland families from receiving access to more sick days.

“In the last year, polls show Governor Hogan’s popularity and chances of reelection have fallen by double digits, while paid sick leave is still supported by 7 out of 10 Marylanders,” said Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews.  “It is clear that the people in this state are fed up with Governor Hogan placing the interests of the Republican Party and special interest groups ahead of the well-being of hardworking Marylanders.”
