Oct 10, 2017

Annapolis, Md. – One year ahead of the 2018 gubernatorial and state legislative races, the Maryland Democratic Party has hired new top-level staff including Fabion Seaton as communications director, Eva Lewis as political director, and Saif Ratul as state field director.

The three will expand the Party’s investments in communications and party infrastructure heading into the 2018 election cycle under the leadership of Maryland Democratic Party Chair Kathleen Matthews and Executive Director Stephanie Potter.

“The Maryland Democratic Party is laying the groundwork earlier than ever for victory in 2018 and beyond with investments in a strong staff to support our bold messaging and outreach strategies,” said Party Chair Kathleen Matthews. “This team has the energy, the experience, and the drive to support our candidates up and down the ballot, all across the state.”

Fabion Seaton will manage the Party’s communications and messaging strategy, and most recently served as the press secretary for Congressman Elijah E. Cummings.  Prior to that, Seaton worked for former Senator Barbara Boxer and former Baltimore delegate Jill P. Carter.  He grew up in Prince George’s County and is a graduate of Frostburg State University.

Saif Ratul will manage the Party’s field operation, and most recently served as the deputy field director for the 2016 Maryland Democratic Coordinated Campaign.  Prior to that, Ratul was a regional field director for then-Rep. Chris Van Hollen’s U.S. Senate campaign and worked on electoral and issue-based campaigns in Iowa, Colorado and New York.

Eva Lewis will manage the Party’s political outreach.  Prior to joining the Maryland Democratic Party, Lewis worked for many years as an attorney, grassroots organizer and political operative building coalitions and increasing political engagement.  She is a native of Prince George’s County.
