Maryland Democratic Party on Attacks Against AAPI Communities

Mar 12, 2021

MARYLANDToday, following the disturbing rise in racially motivated attacks and abuse targeted at Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Americans and Marylanders, MDP Chair Yvette Lewis, DNC AAPI Caucus Chair Bel Leong-Hong, and MDP AAPI Diversity Leadership Council Chair Devang Shah released the following statement:

“Racism in any form is unacceptable. The Maryland Democratic Party unequivocally condemns the recent surge of violence and racial vitriol aimed at members of the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities. These racially motivated acts are abhorrent, un-American, and must not be allowed to continue. AAPIs are part of the very foundation of America — they helped build this nation, making it the land of opportunity and hope it is today. AAPI Americans continue to be integral leaders across our country, from frontline COVID-19 workers to our Vice President.

“Maryland’s diversity is our strength; in times of difficulty, our communities have always come together — providing support and standing in solidarity. We must once more unite as Marylanders against these attacks, and re-dedicate ourselves to the fight for a more just and equal nation.”
