MDP STATEMENT ON INTERIM CHAIR ELECTION

Annapolis, Md.  – Executive Committee members of the Maryland Democratic Party today voted to elect Kathleen Matthews as Interim Party Chair. The committee elected Matthews to replace outgoing Chair D. Bruce Poole who served in his role for two years.

Matthews, a Montgomery County resident, has worked in Maryland and Washington D.C. for 40 years as a political activist, journalist and communications executive. She is a graduate of Stanford University and a 2004 Fellow at the Institute of Politics at the Kennedy School at Harvard University.

Maryland Democratic Party Executive Director Chuck Conner released the following statement:

“In this transitional time for our party, it’s critical to have someone in this role who can see the big picture, bring people together and grow our party to achieve success in 2018 and beyond. Kathleen is a problem solver who brings new and innovative ideas to the table. We will be forever grateful to Bruce Poole for his vision, leadership and dedication.”

Central Committee members representing the state’s 23 counties and Baltimore City will meet in May to elect a chair to serve until 2018.
