Maryland Democratic Party Hires Veteran Political Strategist as Communications Director

Mar 26, 2019

Annapolis, MD—On Tuesday, the Maryland Democratic Party announced the arrival of Arinze Ifekauche as its new Communications Director. Ifekauche was most recently a Principal at Precision Strategies, a D.C. based public relations and public affairs firm run by three senior advisors from President Barack Obama’s 2012 campaign team.

Prior to his work at Precision, Ifekauche served as the Public Information Officer for Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby. He earned a 2015 Campaign & Elections Rising Star nomination for his work authoring the speech Mosby delivered announcing charges against the six Baltimore City Police officers involved in Freddie Gray’s death.

“We’re working to energize and mobilize Marylanders ahead of the Convention and the 2020 election, and prevent Governor Hogan from furthering his political ambitions in the U.S. Senate or the White House by taking credit for the work of Maryland’s Democratic lawmakers,” Maryland Democratic Party Chair Maya Rockeymoore Cummings said. “Much of that work starts with a successful communications program. Arinze’s experience makes him well suited for elevating the work of the Party and connecting with the thousands of volunteers and donors that are eager to recapture the governor’s mansion and the White House.”

In addition to managing Mosby’s 2014 win, Ifekauche worked as a political consultant on Baltimore City Councilman Ryan Dorsey’s race in 2016 and as a GOTV advisor on Forward Maryland’s ballot initiative to support marriage equality in 2012. He was Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake’s Field Director in 2011 and managed field programs for DCCC Frontline congressional candidates in 2008 and 2010.

“Volunteer and donor activation is a key part of our strategic vision for the future of the Party. With the addition of Arinze’s experience in crisis, political, and public policy communications we can offer senior level technical expertise to our Members at all levels of government.” Maryland Democratic Party Executive Director Ben Smith said.

Ifekauche worked on Capitol Hill from 2009 to 2010 for Rep. Parker Griffith (AL-5) and Rep. John Boccieri (OH-16). He holds a masters in public relations from Kent State University and a bachelor’s degree in public relations from the University of Alabama.
