Hogan Fails to Articulate Plan or Vision for Maryland in Gubernatorial Debate

Annapolis, MD—Today, Maryland Democratic Party chair Kathleen Matthews issued the following statement on the gubernatorial debate:

“Today we saw why Larry Hogan would only agree to one debate. In 60 minutes, Governor Hogan couldn’t articulate how he’d use a second term to improve education, close the education achievement gap, bring more jobs to Maryland, and give all Marylanders access to affordable healthcare.

“While Larry Hogan struggled to lay out a vision and defend his record, Ben Jealous is eager to advance bold ideas to move Maryland forward and he has plans to get it done. Governor Hogan is lagging behind Maryland voters who are looking for change in this year’s election, and he remains stuck in the past.

“In a year when voters are looking for change and agree with Ben Jealous on important issues like raising wages, access to affordable healthcare and education, Governor Hogan struggled, in this first of hopefully more debates, to convince voters he deserves a second term.”
