Maryland Democratic Party Lauds Democratic Efforts on the RELIEF Act

Feb 16, 2021

MARYLAND — Monday, February 15th, Maryland Democratic Party Chair Yvette Lewis released the following statement after the RELIEF Act — a Maryland COVID-19 relief package — was signed into law:

“Today, Maryland Lawmakers took an important step towards building our state and our economy back better. The RELIEF Act, which was signed into law this afternoon, will provide $1 billion in aid to Marylanders in need — including direct payments to low-income families, assistance to small businesses, and tax relief to those receiving unemployment insurance.

“This COVID-19 aid package could not be more important. Families are still struggling to put food on the table, and businesses are trying to keep their doors open; this will be a boon to our state while we wait for President Biden’s comprehensive American Rescue Plan.

“Not only will this bill provide much-needed aid, but it has shown that bi-partisan legislation is still possible. The near-unanimous vote in the House and the unanimous vote in the Senate demonstrates the urgency of this moment, and the importance of the bill — I hope Congressional Republicans take note. I’m grateful to Maryland House Speaker Adrienne Jones and Senate President Bill Ferguson, who championed this bill and made its speedy passing possible. Maryland, relief is on the way.”
