Maryland Democratic Party Calls on Hogan and Harris to Fight for Maryland Taxpayers

Oct 05, 2017

Annapolis, Md. – Today, with House Speaker Paul Ryan scheduled to visit Chestertown, MD in Congressman Andy Harris’ congressional district, the Maryland Democratic Party is calling on Governor Larry Hogan and Congressman Andy Harris to fight for Maryland taxpayers by opposing Republicans’ extreme tax plan.

The plan would eliminate the state and local tax deduction, which would increase the taxes of nearly one-third of all Maryland taxpayers—including some families whose taxes would increase by more than $1,500.  Despite clear evidence of the harm this extreme plan would do to hundreds of thousands of Maryland families, Governor Hogan and Congressman Harris have refused to fight for their constituents.

“If President Trump and the Republican Congress successfully eliminate the state and local tax deduction, they will jack up taxes on nearly one-third of all Maryland taxpayers—including some families whose taxes would go up by more than $1,500,” said Maryland Democratic Party spokesperson Fabion Seaton.  “We are eager to hear Speaker Ryan explain why he wants to raise taxes on middle class Marylanders and give tax cuts to millionaires and billionaires. Governor Hogan and Congressman Harris should stop putting their party before people and stand up for Maryland taxpayers by opposing this plan.”
