Maryland Democrats Kick Summer of Resistance and Renewal Into High Gear

Jul 14, 2017

Annapolis, Md. – Maryland Democrats are already knocking on doors and phone-banking well ahead of 2018 as part of its “Summer of Resistance and Renewal” organizing campaign.

The Montgomery County Democratic Party will host a major canvass launch event this weekend in Silver Spring, and similar launch events are taking place this week elsewhere across the state in several counties, including Baltimore, Frederick and Talbot.

“Democrats in Maryland are already rolling up their sleeves and knocking on their neighbors’ doors this summer to get ready for the 2018 elections,” said Emily Shetty, Montgomery County Democratic Party vice chair. “With the Trump administration, Governor Larry Hogan and Maryland Republicans threatening to undo the policies that help so many Maryland families and communities, it’s critical that Marylanders get involved now more than ever.”

The Summer of Resistance and Renewal is a call-to-action ahead of the 2018 election to listen and connect with voters in a more meaningful way earlier than ever in the cycle. The campaign focuses on partnerships with Democratic clubs and progressive groups across the state to recruit and train volunteers and conduct on-the-ground canvassing in every county.

“Organizing starts with a conversation. That’s why we’re not only resisting the regressive Trump/Hogan agenda, but also sharing with our neighbors why Democrats are on their side and fighting to create a better future for all Marylanders,” said Luisa Arévalo, president of the Latino Democratic Club of Montgomery County and member of the Montgomery County Democratic Central Committee.

The program is part of the national Democratic Party’s “Resistance Summer” project designed to bolster state party organizing efforts across the country.

The Montgomery County event is open to press. For more information, please email[email protected].
