Governor Hogan Needs to Take Stand on Senate Republicans' Secret Trumpcare Plan

Jun 22, 2017

Annapolis, Md. –  As Senate Republicans roll out their disastrous health care bill today, Marylanders deserve to know where Governor Larry Hogan stands.

“As Senate Republicans unveil their plan to gut Medicaid, undercut Maryland’s fight against the opioid epidemic, present the state with a fiscal nightmare and overall take health care coverage and protections away from Marylanders, it is time for Governor Hogan to take a stand on his party’s health care repeal,” said Maryland Democratic Party spokesperson Bryan Lesswing. “While Governor Hogan’s evasiveness is on par with his own party’s secretive approach in the U.S. Senate, it’s unconscionable not to stand up for the hundreds of thousands of Marylanders whose health care and benefits are on the line.”

Hogan has repeatedly refused to protect Marylanders from Trumpcare’s damage.
Earlier this spring, he appointed a Trumpcare-proponent to lead Maryland’s health care commission.

Last week, Hogan did not join the bipartisan group of governors who denounced the harm the House-passed Trumpcare plan inflicted on their respective states and constituents.

Yesterday, Maryland-based health insurance companies credited the Trump Administration’s sabotage of the Affordable Care Act for weakening Maryland’s health marketplaces.

Earlier today, Massachusetts Republican Governor Charlie Baker denounced the Senate GOP health care bill, saying that it “will result in significant funding losses for our state.”
