Digital Director

The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking a highly motivated individual to direct the digital operations for the 2024 election cycle. The Digital Director will manage all aspects of the non-fundraising digital program including digital strategy, rapid response, social media copy, non-fundraising email copy, digital tools maintenance, and more. This individual will also interact with the fundraising team to provide thought partnership on new as well as consistent ways to drive digital fundraising.

The Digital Director will work closely with other members of the communications team, political team, digital department of the DNC/DSCC, and the field team. This role is under the direction of the Deputy Executive Director and will be based in Maryland.

Utilizing creative and innovative tactics, the Digital Director will work every day to engage and inspire Democrats in Maryland and hold Republican candidates accountable. They will play an important role on our team and will help elect Democratic candidates, protect our Democratic incumbents, and protect the Democratic Senate Majority.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop an overarching digital strategy within the larger communications plan, including social, email, and website properties, complete with digital metrics;
  • Execute daily social media postings including building out a social media calendar;
  • Identify opportunities for online engagement and tracking digital trends to grow our online program;
  • Responsible for directing the Party’s rapid response operations including social media, email copy, and information dissemination;
  • Working closely with the Communications Department to track breaking news that can be amplified online;
  • Work with the communications team and related departments to develop creative ideas the Party and candidates can leverage to gain earned media or drive the political conversation in the state;
  • Produce one pagers, talking points, fact checks, infographics and other summary documents that can be disseminated to key stakeholders and the public;
  • Design engaging digital and print graphics (social media, toolkits, templates, emails, rally signs, flyers, logos for MDP events, etc.);
  • Maintain, and update the MDP website with press releases, and other updates needed for other departments;
  • Work with volunteers and activists to train them on digital strategies to further the goals of MDP;
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum 2 years of experience running cutting edge digital campaigns;
  • Proficient in graphic design (video and static graphics);
  • A creative mindset and an eagerness to try new things;
  • Excellent writing ability in both short form posts and longer form emails;
  • Political instances to know how different communication strategies will land with different communities;
  • Ability to work under pressure and under very tight deadlines;
  • Willingness to work campaign hours including nights and weekends;
  • A commitment to Democratic values;

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Maryland ties;
  • Work on statewide campaigns or with multiple campaigns at once.

Logistics:

  • This role will have weekly in-person meetings and will be responsible for attending events across Maryland as necessary. Party HQ is located in Annapolis, Maryland which is easily accessible from most areas of the state;
  • Currently, staff is in the office 3 days per week. This schedule may evolve to reflect the needs of the campaign;

Salary and Benefits:

  • Salary is commensurate with experience and the budget necessities of the organization. MDP provides medical, dental, and vision to the employee, and 100% cost of coverage is covered. Paid holidays, earned vacation, and sick PTO.
