MD Dems Have Resources & Organization to Turnout 1 Million Democratic Voters

Oct 26, 2018

Annapolis, MD—With Maryland voters already casting their ballots, the Maryland Democratic Party has more than $1.3 million cash on hand to drive more than 1 million Democratic voters to the polls. This is the party’s largest reported cash on hand in October in more than 15 years, and it is more than double the $600,000 the party had at the same point in 2014.

The party’s fundraising success has enabled the party to put 50 organizers on the ground statewide—more than three times the 14 organizers the party had on the ground in 2014.

“While Larry Hogan relies on donations from Big Pharma and other wealthy corporations to fund his negative and misleading campaign, Democrats will remain focused on engaging our communities in every county in Maryland to turnout 1 million Democrats this year,” said Maryland Democratic Party chair Kathleen Matthews. “Maryland Democrats are already taking advantage of early voting in record numbers, and the party has the resources to channel the unprecedented energy in the Democratic Party straight into the polls on Election Day.”

Democrats’ commitment to turning out 1 million voters will capitalize on Democratic intensity in 2018. More than 30 percent of voters in the June 2018 Democratic primary voted in 2016, but did not vote in 2014. More than 87,000 Marylanders voted in the first day of early voting yesterday, more than twice the 42,000 on the same day in 2014.

The party is projecting a 20 percent increase in the general election as a result of an energized Democratic base.
