Scherod C. Barnes, First Vice Chair

Scherod C. Barnes was born and raised in Baltimore City where he attended Baltimore public schools.

He is a resident of the Loch Raven Community in Northeast Baltimore where he has lived for 40 years. Scherod serves as President of the Northeast Community Organization (NECO) a community based organization that supports, assists and serves as a resource to neighborhoods in Northeast Baltimore.

He is currently employed in the sales department and oversees community relations and outreach for P. Flannigan & Son where he has worked for 43 years.

Scherod was elected as 1st Vice Chair of the Maryland Democratic Party on May 6, 2017. Over the years, Scherod has been involved in local and state politics and currently also chairs the 51 member Baltimore City Democratic State Central Committee and is a member of the Maryland Democratic Party Executive Board. In addition, he currently serves as a member of the BGE Community Advisory Council.

Scherod is an active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. where he has served on all levels of the organization as an appointed and elected member. He is a member of the NAACP, Prince Hall Mason and a founding member of the 100 Black Men of Maryland, Inc.

Formerly, a member of the Maryland House of Delegates from the 43rd Legislative District, the Board of Municipal and Zoning Appeal for Baltimore City and has served on other boards and commissions.

​Scherod and his wife Tarrie have been married for 42 years. He is the father of two, Tarice and Michael, grandfather of three: Micayla, Jeremiah and Micah and is a member of St. Matthews Roman Catholic Church in Northeast Baltimore.
