Operations Director

Job Title: Director of Operations

Location: Annapolis, Maryland

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience

 

The Maryland Democratic Party is seeking a full-time person to conduct the core administrative responsibilities of the Party operations. Responsibilities include administering accounts payable/receivable, human resources, and compliance with campaign finance laws. This is a salaried position which reports directly to the Executive Director.

 

Overview of Responsibilities

 

Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable

  • Oversee the acceptance and processing of campaign donations
  • Ensure that all deposits are made to the proper campaign account
  • Reconcile contributions between the bank, Quickbooks, NGP database, and hard copies
  • Review contributions for duplicates in the NGP system, and merge when appropriate
  • Produce weekly deposit and cash-on-hand reports for the Chair and Executive Director
  • Analyze invoices, determine which account is appropriate for the expense, & file invoice
  • Process payments for Executive Director approval and check signing
  • Prepare monthly transaction reports, as well as payroll profit and loss report, for the Executive Director, Chair, and Treasurer
  • File management, budgeting, and vendor management

Compliance

  • Assure adherence to state and federal campaign finance laws
  • Prepare data for state and federal reports, file reports with the FEC and SBE, and amend reports when necessary
  • Provide FEC and SBE reports for review by Executive Director, Chair, and Treasurer
  • Review MDP fundraising communications for compliance prior to their distribution
  • Maintain FEC time sheets
  • Assist local central committees with compliance-related needs

Human Resources

  • Onboard new employees, including processing paperwork and ID as required by law
  • Administer payroll semi-monthly, and serve as group administrator for employee benefits
  • Maintain employee files, and keep employee handbook up to date with labor laws
  • Set up new employee emails, cell phones, and computers as applicable
  • Prepare reports as required by the ACA, workers compensation, and unemployment information requests
  • Maintain office supply levels, and recurring payments such as rent and utilities

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Democratic Party and its values
  • A strong knowledge of state and federal campaign finance laws
  • A minimum of 2 years previous work experience in political campaign finance
  • Prior office management experience
  • Proficient computer skills, including QuickBooks, NGP, and G-Suite
  • Ability to set and meet established deadlines and standards
  • Demonstrated skill with setting and communicating priorities
  • A detail oriented self-starter, who works well with others
  • An ongoing dedication to updating your knowledge of state and federal campaign finance laws
