Maryland Asian Pacific Americans for Obama Unite to Elect Obama President

Unite
to Elect Senator Barack Obama President
Top Asian Pacific American leaders recently participated in
a recent Maryland Democratic Unity Rally. As the Democratic presidential
primary has come to an end, leading Asian Pacific Americans Democrats, who
supported both Senators Barack Obama and Hillary
Clinton, have united to support Senator Obama for
President.
Maryland House of Delegates,
Delegate Susan Lee along with Paul Tiao and Minh Le are leading and chairing the
Maryland Asian Pacific Americans for Obama. The
“Both Senators Obama and Clinton
made history, and now our kids can see that is truly possible for a minority or
woman to be the presidential nominee and president. Now that the primary
has come to an end, it is important that we unite and elect Barack Obama as our
next President,” said Delegate Lee.

The group has had several post
primary meetings and gathered together top leaders from a diverse cross section
of the Asian Pacific American community who are working on outreach, media,
unity rallies, voter registration, GOTV, and other events in Maryland, Virginia,
and the DC area and assisting the National Asian Pacific Americans for Obama on
a $1 million fundraiser expected to draw over 1,000.
The group also created an student
internship program which will send students to assist the Obama campaigns in

Democratic Party Vice Chair Dr. Ngoc Chu stated, “this election is truly
inspiring, its about a candidate who is the child of Kenyan immigrant and Kansas
native, raised in Hawaii, attended schools on scholarships, as a Harvard Law
graduate bypassed high paying law firms to work in the community and now wants
to take the country in a new direction.”
Minh Le added, “He is truly the
embodiment of the American Dream, something which many Asian Pacific Americans
aspire to.”
CAPAD-MD Special Advisor Kun Sin
stated, “The group is working very hard to ensure the Asian Pacific American
community is not only energized, but also plays a major and historic role in
electing Barack Obama President in what will be a close election in November.”
